Williamsburg-Yorktown American Revolution Round Table with Rob Orrison

Thursday, October 5, 2023

Join the Williamsburg-Yorktown American Revolutionary Round Table, at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, for its fifth in the 2023 speakers’ series.  Rob Orrison will share insights on his latest book, All That Can Be Expected:The Battle of Camden and the British High Tide in the South, August 16, 1780

Historians Rob Orrison and co-author Mark Wilcox describe the events that led to one of the worst American military defeats in United States history. He will lead us in the footsteps of American and British soldiers throughout the South Carolina backcountry.  They interweave a clear historic narrative while guiding us to historic locations, creating a precise understanding of the events of August 1780.  Hard to imagine that just over a year later the Crown forces would experience a similar disaster here at Yorktown.

Rob Orrison, co-founder of Emerging Revolutionary War, has been working in the history field for more than 25 years. Rob received his Bachelor’s Degree in Historic Preservation at Longwood College (now University) and received his Master’s Degree in Public History from George Mason University. Currently Rob serves as the Division Manager for the Prince William County Office of Historic Preservation, which operates 12 historic sites, museums, and parks in Prince William County (VA).

Outside of work, Rob serves as the past president of the Virginia Association of Museums and the board of the Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia. His published works include books about the Guide to the Gettysburg Campaign, “A Single Blow: The Battles of Lexington and Concord” with Phillip Greenwalt. He and Mark Wilcox just published their book on the battle of Camden. We will be one of the first to hear and explore this new release.

About the Williamsburg-Yorktown American Revolution Round Table (WYARRT):  the Round Table (a 501(c)3 nonprofit) was established to study all aspects of our American Revolution (1763-1789).  It is open to all individuals who have an interest in this period of history, the Round Table frequently augments its Speaker Program with local tours or special educational programs for its members and the general public.
