The fun event is based on a 30-year tradition that began in Paris.
Sister Cities Yorktown will hold its sixth annual Soiree en Blanc, or "Dinner in White." The fun event is based on a 30-year tradition that began in Paris when a gentleman wanted to entertain a group of friends he hadn't seen in a while. He selected a secret location and told them to meet at a predetermined place and to wear white so that they could find each other. The event has been replicated around the world in as many as 70 cities. In Paris, the annual event now draws around 12,000 people.
What makes it magical is the tables, decorations, and guests are dressed fashionably in all white! The host provides the venue, tables, chairs, and white tablecloths. Guests will bring their own dinner–think elegant picnic–drinks, wine, beer, white plates, flatware, white napkins, glasses, and white table decorations. Be creative–table decorations will be judged!
This event will be held indoors in Yorktown, although the exact location remains a secret until two days before the event. That’s part of the fun! Ticket holders will be notified of the location by email.
Proceeds from this event support student and teacher exchanges, citizen exchanges, and educational and cultural events in York County and Port-Vendres, France.
