Citizens of Yorktown: Dr. Daniel Norton

Sunday, January 23, 2022

There is no better way to experience Historic Yorktown than taking a stroll with a professional historian! Tour guides Maureen Wiese and J. Michael Moore will provide interesting information and insights not typically found in history books.

Dr. Daniel Norton was born into slavery in Williamsburg c. 1840s. He escaped to New York in the 1850s and returned to Yorktown after the Civil War. During this tour and talk, topics will include Dr. Norton's prosperous life in Yorktown and the impact he left in Virginia as a state senator and Civil Rights activists.

Tour begins and ends at Mobjack Bay Coffee Roasters. Must be able to walk at a leisurely pace for an hour, with stops along the way.

(This tour was rescheduled from Jan. 16 due to inclement weather.)
