CANCELED Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival

Sunday, August 9, 2020

Due to several factors, the most important of which being public safety, this year’s Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival has been canceled.

The initial spring date for this event had been pushed back to August with hopes the pandemic might be better under control by now. Unfortunately, the latest tracking numbers from the Virginia Department of Health illustrate that is simply not the case. Given the social nature of the event and the inclination to gather in groups while consuming alcohol and listening to music, this seemed the most responsible decision to help protect the community. Organizers of the event were also challenged to find volunteers. Any tickets already purchased will be refunded. We look forward to making the return of this annual festival in May of 2021 a resounding success!

Sample dozens of local craft beers, dig into some amazing BBQ, and listen as some of the best Blues musicians in Hampton Roads take the stage at Riverwalk Landing. Get ready for a toe tappin', finger poppin', hip shakin' blues experience! At 12:30 p.m., Bobby BlackHat Blues Blasts, with special guests, will deliver blends and influences of Chicago-, Memphis-, Piedmont-, and Delta-style blues along with a little Gospel. Then at 3:30 p.m., the Michael Clark Band will take the mic with a blend of R&B, Blues, Soul, Rock, Jazz, and Funk.

COVID-19 Precautions
Based on current pandemic conditions, event organizers are making several adjustments to minimize contact points and to help ensure public health safety. All staff members with direct customer contact will wear masks and each person will have his/her temperature taken before beginning work. There will be increased space between vendors, a limit to the number of ticket sales for the event, frequent disinfectant in higher traffic areas, no food sampling, and sanitizing stations placed throughout the festival.

Where to Park
Free parking is available in the two-level parking terrace on Water Street, the York-Poquoson Courthouse, the County Administration Building, York Hall, and other designated public lots throughout town. The free Yorktown Trolley will run from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with several convenient stops throughout town.

The event is presented by Village Events. A special thanks to this year’s sponsors: York County, State Farm Agent Mark Irwin, Water Street Grille, and Atlantic Union Bank. Proceeds Benefit the York Foundation for Public Education.

Due to the evolving nature of the COVID-19 pandemic—all York County sponsored and partner community events are subject to postponement or cancellation. This includes changes to dates, times, and locations.
